‘Watch and Chill (https://watchandchill.kr/en)’ is a subscription-based streaming platform, seeking to explore ways to bring international art institutions, artists, and audiences together around a carefully curated selection of moving image artworks. The ambition of the project is to enable a multilateral exchange among international art museums, planned for a three-year run. Followed by the collaboration among Asian museums in 2021, the project expands its partners to the art organizations in the Middle East and Europe this year. The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA), together with The Sharjah Art Foundation in the United Arab Emirates and ArkDes (The Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design) share their collections and the works of each of their art community. The project accompanies traveling offline showcases at the collaborating institutions, starting from MMCA as an exhibition.
Entitled Streaming Senses, Watch and Chill season 2 examines the contemporaneous system of sensing translated into digital. Sub-themed as “Optical Tactility,” “Calibrated Projection,” “Trans, Cross, Move,” and “Bits of the Spirit,” the exhibition ponders upon the multifaceted sensoria of humanity vis-à-vis technology, through the works that manifest synesthetic affects beyond the digital screens.
