Ayoung Kim’s Delivery Dancer’s Sphere (2022) tells the story of Ernst Mo, a woman delivery rider. Ernst Mo is a ghost dancer at the top of the delivery ranks, delivering packages at high speeds along invisible routes. With a short window of time to complete the delivery, Ernst Mo is confronted by En Storm, a ghostly entity from another possible world that perfectly resembles her. With these two characters, Kim illustrates the irreconcilable situations and their multifaceted relationships. The relationship between Ernst Mo and En Storm is an analogy for the encounter between humans and technology in the age of AI. Delivery Dancer Simulation (2022) is a game simulation video of Delivery Dancer’s Sphere, which captures the setting of the work in the virtual space of a game. In this simulation video, a rider sprints relentlessly through the night, filled with the artificial lights of Seoul, to complete her deliveries within the allotted time. The game’s infinite yet disjointed and distorted space keeps the rider adrift. This is reminiscent of a worker trapped in the labyrinth of today’s platforms.
